Lyon Newell Charity Throws Meet

The Lyon Newell Charity Throws Meet is unique in that it is a sporting event, a memorial event, and a charity event all in one.  In addition to donating to the Child Advocacy Center, a portion of the proceeds will go towards a scholarship in memory of Lyon Newell, who died in a tragic accident in October, 2002 shortly after graduating from the University of Alabama. As many as 92 high schools from Alabama, Florida and Mississippi are invited each year to participate in this event in memory of the former student athlete and graduate of UMS-Wright.  This event has raised $139,000 to date for charities. 

11th Annual Lyon Newell Meet

The 2013 11th Annual Lyon Newell Charity Throws Meet was held on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at UMS-Wright.   This year's sponsors were the Orthopaedic Group and Hellas Construction as gold sponsors, UJ Chevrolet as a silver sponsor, and Regions Bank as a bronze sponsor.  If you would like to sponsor the 2014 event or give a donation, please contact our Advancement Office at 470-9025.
