“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom” – Psalm 111:10
UMS-Wright is a college preparatory, independent school. While we are not affiliated with any specific religious tradition, our school motto (Psalm 111:10) points us to God and we encourage a sense of responsibility to faith, service to others, and strong moral character with a foundation of honor and integrity. Our mission as a school community is to educate no only the mind and body, but also the spirit of the student as well. And it is to this end that we seek to provide course work, readings, assembly programs, and various other opportunities that emphasize truth, virtuous living, and reliable standards of right and wrong. The Office of Student Ministries works to promote this aspect of our educational process.
Dear Lord and Heavenly Father
As we search for knowledge and wisdom
Grant that we may not forget
That Thou are the Giver
Of all good and perfect gifts
Teach us to play the game with honor,
In our work and in our play.
May our words and deeds be such
That those who were before us
Will not be ashamed
And those who follow after
Will find in us
An example of truth and courage –
The spirit of our school.
Give to us a noble spirit
That we, with our teachers,
May go forward to achieve
The highest goals in life.
Bless our school,
And all who teach,
And all who learn,
And thine be the honor,
And glory forever.
Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)
FCA is an on campus student club and has been a part of the campus life of UMS-Wright for many, many years. It provides spiritual encouragement and Christian community for students in both our middle and upper schools. The upper school FCA meets each Wednesday during lunch for fellowship, prayer, encouragement, and a relevant speaker. Middle school FCA meets roughly twice a month during lunch for fellowship and usually has an upper school student, typically a senior, sharing some of their faith journey with the younger students. The faculty sponsors for FCA are Bill Haffner, Libby Hoffman, Vicki White, and Michael Schultz.
Parents in Prayer
Parents in Prayer, which was started as Moms in Prayer, is a vitally important part of the life and culture of our campus community. This groups meets every Tuesday morning, starting at 7:45am, in the main school office conference room. This is open to any UMS-Wright parent, both moms and dads are welcome and is a very casual time of prayer for our campus, our students, our faculty, our staff, and our administration. The gathering is typically over around 8:45am and you are welcome to come and go at anytime during the gathering. We would strongly encourage you to come and be a part of this important time as we lift our UMS-Wright family up to God.
GEMs (Girls Enrichment Ministry)
The GEMs is parent lead ministry for girls here at UMS-Wright. GEMs is open to any girl in almost in grade on our campus through coordination between moms of our students and the Student Ministries office. The groups typically meet monthly during lunch to have a time of fellowship, encouragement, prayer, and bible study. We would encourage all girls to feel welcome to join and see what it means to become a woman of God. Any parents interested in getting involved please contact Michael Schultz in the Student Ministries office.
Athletic Team Chapels/Meetings
Our school prayer reminds us everyday to “…play the game with honor…” and our athletic department, coaches, and administration work hard to make sure our teams live out this each day. One of the ways we work to encourage our student athletes is through team meetings and/or chapels lead by our School Chaplain, Michael Schultz. These are short devotionals, times of prayer, and stories of inspiration and encouragement, designed to help further a culture of integrity and character development as well as to point our students in a direction of faith, hope, and love. We want our teams to represent our school, themselves, and their families in a manner that is honoring to God and in keeping with our tradition of excellence on and off the field of play.
Young Life is an independent ministry that operates in partnership with our school and campus. They provide off campus Bible Study opportunities, called Campaigners, for all of our upper school students. They offer a weekly off campus meeting called Young Life Club on Monday nights for students in grades 9-12 and a monthly off campus meeting called WyldLife on Saturday nights for grades 6-8. Many of our students participate in mission trips to Guatemala and summer camps with Young Life as well. And their leaders provide great role models for helping our students discover and live out their faith and attend many school events. They support our students and school in everything we do.
