Lower School Media Center

Welcome to the UMS-Wright Lower School Library Media Center webpage.  This is a place where students can come to access digital resources, and parents can come to find information about how to support their child in the learning process throughout the school year. My vision of the library is to create a welcoming environment where the school community will collaborate and work together, provide resources, teach 21st century skills, enable access to digital resources, and instill a love of reading.

Library Websites and Information

Harris Library

Welcome to the UMS-Wright Lower School Harris Library catalog.  No password is needed to access the library catalog virtually. Choose Harris Library and explore which books are in the library, look up authors last name, and look up call numbers to find out where books are located on the library shelves.

Alabama Virtual Library

Encyclopedias, eBooks, and great resources for elementary students, with no login required to check out books or use resources for residents of Alabama.

Mobile Public Library

  • eBooks, digital magazines, and streaming services all available with your Mobile Public Library card.

  • Need AR books? Use this link to search the Mobile Public Library for books by ATOS level, and place a hold at your favorite Mobile Public Library for curbside pickup.

EPIC eBook Library

Over 40,000 eBooks for kids 12 and under. Personal subscriptions are available from EPIC, but students have free access to eBooks that are shared with you through a class code from your classroom.

Overdue or Lost Books

K3 through 1st grade students check out one book, and 2nd-4th grade students can check out two books at a time from the lower school library. There is not a fine for overdue books. However, your child will not be able to check out another book until the book is returned. If your child loses or damages a book, the fee is $15. Once they pay the lost/damaged fee they will be allowed to check out again.

Accelerated Reader

AR Book Finder
At AR Book Finder you can search for Accelerated Reader books that interest you and are on your level.

Kids Books Series Organized by AR level

This website is not only a great resource for children’s book series, but also organizes them by AR level.  A great website for readers looking for an AR book and avid readers looking for their next great book.

AR Renaissance Home Connect

First, second, third, and fourth grade students use a software program called Renaissance at school. It is what they use to take AR tests. This program has a special feature called Home Connect, which you can access outside of school from any computer with an internet connection. Home Connect allows you to view information about student progress. It also allows you to sign up to receive email notifications when your child completes an activity or assessment at school. The login for Home Connect is the same login students use at school to take AR tests on their ipads.

Rising 2nd Grade through Rising 4th Grade Summer Book Challenge – June 1st through July 31st

All you need to do to join the UMS-Wright Summer Book Challenge is to take AR tests on the books you read this summer. The more books you read, the more points you will earn.
