UMS-Wright Volleyball

The Bulldogs have brought in a new head coach for the 2017 season. Coach Melody Fillingim (Tenney) comes to UMS-Wright from Chowan University, an NCAA Division II school in North Carolina. A Tallahassee native, Coach Fillingim returns to Mobile, AL after coaching 4 years of college volleyball and winning the CIAA Northern Division last season. Entering her 9th year of coaching volleyball, Coach Fillingim is excited to bring her knowledge of the game and expertise back to the high school level.

The 2017 Varsity team features 7 returners. Senior outside hitter, Sarah Pehler will be a vital part of the Lady Bulldogs offense this season. Pehler was the Bulldogs 2016 MVP and was recently named to the USA Volleyball A3 High Performance Team for the South region. Senior Renee Duthu returns to play for the Bulldogs and has already proven to be a key component in the offense as an outside hitter. Mercer University commit, Lynn Gardner will also add a heavy arm to the Bulldog offense. Returners Grace George, Sarah Elizabeth, Lauren Hinton and newcomers Madelyn Friedlander and Kendall Ward will each play important roles in the team’s offense. Senior Libero Cameron Hill will lead the team’s defense.

The Lady Bulldogs have been very competitive throughout the summer scrimmages and will continue to grow as a team, as they look to compete for the 4A State Title.

Please come out to show your support for the Lady Bulldogs this season. We look forward to seeing everyone at the games!

Go Bulldogs!
