Andalusia Upsets #1 Ranked Bulldogs
Saturday, September 16, 2017

Fourth-ranked Andalusia defeated Class 4A, No. 1 UMS-Wright 27-21 in an overtime thriller on Friday night in Andalusia.

Roosevelt Weaver scored the game-winner from 2 yards out to improve the Bulldogs to 3-1 and 2-0 in Region 1 play. Weaver's score came one possession after UMS-Wright (3-1, 1-1) had two touchdowns negated due to penalties on the opening possession of overtime.

After both penalties, the Bulldogs found more misfortune, as Andalusia intercepted a pass to end any scoring chance.

UMS-Wright scored with 37 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.

"I can’t say enough about they way these kids played tonight," Andalusia coach Trent Taylor said. "Our defense did an outstanding job. One of our best defensive linemen, William Lindsey, went down on the first play of the game and some guys stepped up in a big way. There were just so many players out there tonight that made this win possible. This is a big for us."

Andalusia led 21-7 in the third quarter after a 99-yard touchdown pass from Ethan Wilson to B.J. Anderson.

Symon Smith ran for 144 yards on 18 carries for UMS.
