T R Miller Challenge
Tuesday, October 04, 2016

Opening up October the teams traveled to Brewton on the 1st to compete in the T R Miller Challenge. Cooler day and some nice hills made for a good race. There were 16 teams in the girls' race and 19 in the varsity boys. The boys came away third and the girls ended up seventh. Our JV boys ran really well to win their division and the JV girls, put four in the top 15 but ran without the fifth runner so could not get a team score.

Evan Webster led the varsity with his first sub 18 minute 5K and an 11th place finish out of the 152 racers. Evan was picked as the Optimist Runner of the Week for his effort. Seventh grader, Joseph Perry, running his first varsity meet ran our number 2 position in 15th place with a very good time of 18:23 in his second 5K race. Thomas McMillon led our JV group with a second place finsh in the 3K race with Benno Ehrhardt in 4th, Jack McAnnally 7th, David Bell 8th, and Patrick McGowin 12th out of 104 runners.

Audrey Sewell getting faster each week led us again with a 12th place finish in 21:31 and Brenda Ellis ran our number 2 with a PR of 22:25 a 1:20 improvement. Emmie Mayson led the JV with a sixth place finish with 67 runners in the race.

The week of the 3rd thru the 7th is our off week from a meet but this will be a good week of work to get ready to close out the season strong.

Daphne Invitational
Tuesday, October 04, 2016

The last meet of September was the Daphne Invitaional on the 24th. This was a 5K race for everyone and just to let the those who this was their first 5K know that they could handle the distance, the course was a little over the 5K mark. Times verified this, b ut all the racers were running the same distance , so it's place that matters. Our varsity boys were third out of 10 teams with David Ericson as our number 1 and earning Optimist Runner of the Week laurels. We put two others, Evan Webster and Andrew Dismukes in the top 15 out of 87 runners.  Our JV boys were second and we put 6 in the top 16 spots. Joseph Perry and Tre Mitchell led the way at 2nd and 4th.

Our girls varsity was led by Audrey Sewll again at 15th place, but due to a couple of injuries before the meet we only ran 4 in the varsity race so we didn,t get a score. Our JV girls came in second in their race with 5 in the top 15 spots. Brenda Ellis was third overall and Barclay McGinley and Megan Taylor both were in the top ten.

Azalea City Meet
Tuesday, September 13, 2016

Running in the USA Azalea City Classic last weekend our girls were 7th out of nine teams and our boys ended up 8th of ten teams. Audrey Sewell led the girls once more placing 29th with a 23:33 in the field of 60, and Stenphen Fortner placed 24th wiht an 18:38.

Our young teams ended up 6th for the girls and 4th on the boys side. Brenda Ellis was our number one runner for the girls in 16th--15:05-2mile, and Joseph Perry led us  at third in the boys race . Joseph's time of 11:27 over the two mile course is the fastest two mile of the season across the State for a seventh grader. Also, according to the stats kept by the road racers association in Alabama, Joseph's time would be a State Record for a twelve year old--Joseph will be 13 in Nov-- but the association does not except CC race times. The record is 11:31. Really good race for Joseph.

We will compete on the 17th of Sept in the Bayside Meet in Loxley.

We competed last weekend, the 2nd and 3rd, in the Challenge of Champions meet in the 9th/MS and the open divisions. On Friday our young runners competed in the two mile race and showed some good progress from the week before. The five girls who ran ended up third overall and the boys were 5th. The girls posted four personal records ( PR'S) and out of 13 boys racing 9 set a PR. Brenda Ellis was our number one girl at 12th place out of 68 and Joseph Perry was 3rd out of 92 for the boys.

In the open division our girls led again by Audry Sewell at 16th of 174, placed third out of 18 teams. The boys led by our only top ten finisher, Even Webster, took the fourth spot out of 25 teams. In the boys race there were 274 runners.

We are looking forward to the USA Azalea City  Classic on the 9th with a chance to show some more improvement on the course we ran the first week at the Fairgrounds. Races start at 3:15.
